On Thursday, August 6, the school board voted on a school reopening plan for families. We'd like to clarify that decision and ask for your help as the team moves forward with plans for a strong start to the year.
Maple Dale-Indian Hill Schools will begin the 2020-2021 school year as planned on September 1, 2020. We will offer two options to begin the school year:
Hybrid Model (Hybrid Summary Slides)
Fully Virtual Model
The aim is to operate using the hybrid model for the first month of school and transition to a full, in-person 5-day week for all students on October 5, 2020, if certain benchmarks are met, such as:
The North Shore Health Department does not advise against this move;
The district has sufficient staffing in place; and
Your child's grade does not have an active case at that time.
These benchmarks along with any emerging trends, data points, and case studies will be monitored closely and inform the decision on fully re-opening. The virtual option, however, will be available for the full 2020-2021 school year, even after a return to a full, in-person 5-day week.
We hope that by sharing this news now, you have the information needed to make plans for your families' start to the school year. To assist with that, the administrative team has developed MDIH 2020-2021 FAQs, which may provide details and answer some of the questions you have. This is a 'living' document and will be updated frequently and posted on the district website for your easy reference.
Today, we are asking for your help:
Please complete this survey by Thursday, August 13 so we can plan for our school start. Knowing your family's intention on a return to school is a big piece of that plan, and we thank you in advance for your quick responses! If we don't hear from you, we will plan on your child(ren) attending in-person school.
As always, thank you for your continued support as we navigate uncharted territory.
